Our Fund Managers

 

Steve Brann

Steve moved from UBS in 1987 to manage the £3bn Lucas Industries Pension Fund which was ranked consistently in the top quartile for performance over 5 years. In 1994, he joined Dresdner Kleinwort Benson where he was responsible for investing – using a diverse range of trading strategies – £1bn of the Bank’s own capital in European equity markets. Having moved to Bank of America in 2000, Steve managed a team responsible for investing £500m of proprietary capital in European equity markets. Then in 2005, Steve set up and co-managed Miton’s CF Miton Arcturus fund – one of the first funds in the UK to adopt a true multi asset class approach.  During his stewardship, the fund achieved 1st Quartile performance in every period since launch.  Steve was one of the founding partners of Apollo LLP in 2008 and manages the Apollo Cautious and Balanced Portfolios.

 

Craig Wetton

Craig joined Chase de Vere in 1986 as an independent financial advisor. In 1995, he founded Chartwell Investment Management and Chartwell Asset Management, and as CEO was responsible for developing and managing a fee-based advisory service, execution only service and discretionary management service. Craig was actively involved in all aspect of portfolio management, including asset allocation, fund selection, research, systems and controls.
When Chartwell was sold in November 2005, Craig was retained as Investment Director and in September 2006 became responsible for the establishment, operation and marketing of the Chartwell OEIC. The Chartwell OEIC has three sub-funds, each of which is independently managed and utilises a true multi – asset approach. Craig chaired both the Investment Committee – monitoring performance of the incumbent Investment Managers against their respective investment mandate – and the Risk Committee – monitoring risks undertaken by the Investment Managers, specifically their use of derivatives and embedded derivatives.  Craig Manages the Apollo Defensive portfolio.

 

Ian Willings

Ian started his investment career in June 2000 as an investment analyst for RP Hodson (Asset Management). In July 2001 he moved to London to become a retail analyst with Insight Investments, part of the HBOS group supplying technical data to clients and fund managers. In 2004 he took up the opportunity to join TT International as a client service analyst where he worked directly with the senior partners of the investment allocation team with primary responsibility to communicate that strategy to clients. He was also responsible for running client’s model portfolio’s, which mirrored one of TT’s active European equity accounts. In June 2006 Ian joined Stephens Fund Management as an Investment Manager where his primary responsibility was t to actively manage the central model portfolios around which all client portfolios are based. Ian is CFA qualified.  Ian manages the Apollo Aggressive portfolio.

 

Ryan Hughes

After graduating with honours’ in Business Studies from the University of the West of England, Ryan began his investment career as a para planner and moved to a fund analyst role. After devising the fund selection process and implementing the new in house discretionary service, Ryan quickly progressed to Head of Asset Management at Chartwell Asset Management. In this role, Ryan had overall responsibility for running the Asset Management business including all areas relating to research, fund manager due diligence and portfolio construction.

In January 2006 Ryan was recruited by Skandia to oversee the entire investment proposition of the their £13bn Multi Manager Range, reporting in directly to the CIO. In this role Ryan was a key member of the overall investment committee, global asset allocation committee and over saw the research and selection of fund managers for key mandates. Prior to leaving Skandia, Ryan was instrumental in the development of a Model Portfolio Service and the cornerstone investment proposition for the on and off-shore life company elements of the business.
